Six used to be Wendy’s favorite number for the longest time. Recently, however, about 3 months ago, she changed it to seven. Why? She said because when you turn seven years old, "special ang party mo." Last April 6, Sunday, our princess turned seven. And we did have a very special party…not in grandeur, nor in budget. It wasn’t held in a hotel or in a resort. We held it at the de Castro’s garden. We did not have celebrities or politicians as guests. On the other hand, what made it special was that we invited the less-fortunate kids in our ocmmunity to share this wonderful occassion. And guess what? WE HAD LOTS OF FUN!

We decided to invite the less-fortunate kids not only because they seldom experience these kinds of activities but also because we felt that it is just proper and more fulfilling, believe me (right Trish), to be able to give back to other needy people at this time when you feel so blessed. It also gives Wendy and her other friends the opportunity to be nice to these kids and realize how lucky they are. Hopefully, they will also grow to be compassionate and helpful people.
Anyway, everything was just simple. Our menu was tailored for kids. Sabi nga ni Paul, "Pang kid’s party talaga". There were spaghetti (of course), hotdog with marshmallows (di pwedeng wala), chicken pops, lumpia, barbeque, cake, donuts, and eat-all-you-can ice cream care of our friendly neighborhood ice cream man.

And the games…oh, we had so much fun! All we had were the "traditional games" like bring me, pass the calamansi, and the undying pabitin and hit the palayok (which was such a hit even the grownups tried). I had a hard time thinking of games when all the good old-fashioned ones did it for us! We all had so, so much fun! My mother also had a game of her own, ala Easter egg hunt, only this time, we called it birthday egg hunt. Toy eggs hidden around our garden had corresponding amounts inside…the kids had fun looking for the eggs!

Tita Nes and Ean shared the job as hosts (thank you!)

Jeloy almost breaks the palayok!

Sige…abutin nyo!!!! Streeeeetch!!!
Tired but having enjoyed, the kids went home with their prizes and loots bags (made from scratch by yours truly) and with big smiles on their faces. This has been one memorable celebration for us. All the hardwork and preparation were worth it! Seeing the smiles of the kids (and their parents) has made me realize that we did not make a mistake in sharing this wonderful day with them.

As for our little princess, who has been a very good girl, may you grow to be a smart, kind, and good girl. We all love you! Oh, and no more parties until you reach your debut!

A party for the less fortunate at Hacienda de Castro?! Asteg! Sana you could do this (or something similar) every year for her birthday until she turns 18.
